Intern, Data Scientist (Mart) Team Internship Location Petaling Jaya, Malaysia Job Type Full-time The role at a glance Get to Know the Team In the Grab Mart Data Science team, you are at the heart of Grab's retail and grocery engine. We build and deploy the AI/ML models that power seamless shopping experiences across our ecosystem. Our mission is to transform millions shop by solving complex challenges in inventory intelligence, demand forecasting, and hyper-personalized discovery, ensuring every user finds exactly what they need, right when they need it. This is a paid internship role. You will report to our Senior Data Science Manager and be based onsite at our office in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Get to Know the Role We are looking for a motivated, fast-learning Data Science Intern who is eager to push the boundaries of what AI can do in Grab Mart. Working with and guided by senior Data Science leads at Grab, you will contribute to impactful technical workstreams. We design this role for someone who not just learns fast but obsesses over Agentic AI. You will help us move from static interfaces to autonomous systems, bridging the gap between advanced research and production-grade marketplace solutions. The Critical Tasks You Will Perform Guided by senior mentors, you will contribute to one of the following core areas: Next-Gen User Experience (AI Agents): Move beyond static interfaces to build agentic, conversational, and anticipatory experiences. You will help predict shopping intent and brand preferences to power autonomous shopping assistants that can handle complex queries, automating re-ordering, and providing hyper-personalized discovery. Service Reliability: Build predictive models to safeguard the order lifecycle by identifying high-risk orders prone to cancellation, predicting fulfillment failures due to insufficient inventory, and flagging transactions requiring proactive intervention. Demand Forecasting: Create high precision, hyper-local spatio-temporal models using complex signals (weather, events, marketing). You will provide granular SKU-level predictions to improve supply chain readiness and minimize waste. Demand Shaping: Implement intelligent optimization algorithms to balance demand and supply in real-time. You will improve platform visibility and use contextual nudges spatially and temporally to balance demand with merchant/driver supply. Demand Generation: Decode unique user shopping patterns to unlock new demand. You will build AI models for automated targeting and user segmentation to drive sustainable growth. Build, Deploy, and Iterate: Develop production-grade AI models. You will participate in the full A/B testing lifecycle and implement real-time production monitoring to ensure long-term model health using MLOps best practices. Read more Skills you need What Essential Skills You Will Need Internship Duration: Can start from May 2026 onwards with a minimum duration of 3 months Education: Pursue or recently completed a Degree in Machine Learning, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field. Motivated and Excited to Learn: A learner who is excited to handle complex, multi-step commerce workflows and pick up new frameworks (like LangChain, CrewAI, or AutoGPT) with guidance. Technical Foundations: Proficiency in Python or Scala. Deep interest in ML/DL, data mining, and optimization algorithms. Familiarity with frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch. Agentic Interest: Has interest in developing new DS solutions with Agents and Generative AI to solve real-world problems. Collaborative Mindset: Have the confidence to communicate well at work to collaborate with your DS mentors, PMs, and Engineers. Good-to-have Skills Experience building large-scale recommender systems or supply-chain optimization. Hands-on experience with Big Data (Spark, Flink, or Kafka). Experience in fine-tuning LLMs or building LLM-based applications.
